Solidarity Campaign - Advent 2005
The hurricane Stan that hit Guatemala almost two months ago has left a trail of destruction and a lot of scars on the Guatemalan people. The consequences have been felt in several communities. During this period of Advent our diocese of Jalapa is conducting a solidarity campaign with one of the communities that was worse effected. Mass by Bishop Mons.Julio on Jalapa's mountain. Mrs María Olimpia Galicia Marroquín died today at Chaparrón .
Today, Bishop Mons. Julio Cabrera celebrated a mass at the Parish of Nuestra Señora de la Expectación situated on the mountain Xalapan of Jalapa. The mass marked the end of the course on the Church’s social doctrine. The Bishop’s presence in this area of high conflict was a sign of unity. more...

Fr Anton was today interviewed on SBS Radio, Australia’s multilingual station broadcasting from Sydney and Melbourne in 68 languages. This telephone interview was carried out by Ms Marlene Galea during a weekly programme in Maltese featuring news and current affairs on the islands of Malta and Gozo. Australia has a very large Maltese community who has emigrated there over the years. more...

A day marred by violence and death in Chaparron and Jalapa
The events that we have witnessed yesterday are a sign that unfortunately our regions are still subject to crime and violence. In Chaparron a couple was murdered while in Jalapa we personally encountered the forced removal of a group of squatters that had occupied land and we were later attacked with stones. more...

New chapel for the community of San Nicolas
The hurricane Stan caused extensive damage to buildings constructed from dried mud bricks. One of them was the small chapel at the hamlet of San Nicolas.The structure could not hold the large amounts of rain water and as a result it was extensively damaged. The only solution was to demolish the chapel and then rebuild it. more...
